Shortage Found In E F Jones Admin Records

Jackson Mississippi January report shows an estimated shortage of 32408.66 in the account of E E Jones former Franklin county superintendent of education. Auditors say Jones’ public duties amount to 8000 and forged vouchers caused the deficit. An overpayment of 8143.93 is also charged. Jones resigned after the audit. The state plans action if recovery fails within 30 days.

Clean-Up Sparks 50 Arrests in Crescent City Precinct

In New Orleans the fourth precinct saw fifty arrests after Captain Henry Clark took command to clean the district. Twenty-five women including 18 negroes faced charges, with ten men charged for tottering and fifteen for disturbing the peace.

Improvement Noted In Fochs Condition Today

Youths Plead Guilty to Burglary Sentenced to State Pen

Edmond Parker 17 and Philip Garlaska 18 of Beaumont Texas pleaded guilty to five charges including two night break ins grand larceny and shooting with intent to murder. Judge Cline sentenced them to minimum twenty years hard labor in the state penitentiary for burglaries in Calcasieu parish. Nearly $1000 in stolen property was recovered after their confessions and disclosure of hiding spots.

Governor Long Adds Two Names to Flood Body

Governor Long adds Col. Kd. S. Hecht president of the Hibernia Bank of New Orleans and L. K. Williams lumberman of Patterson La to the Louisiana flood committee in the federal flood control program. Dismissal of Hardy Ends Meeting

The American Bar association executive committee expelled Los Angeles County Judge Carlos S. Hardy over alleged canon violations and accepting gifts from litigants. The action follows a California legal dispute tied to Hardy receiving a $2400 check from evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson for legal advice.

Judge Hardy and Bar Association Dispute

In 1926 Judge Hardy faced an inquiry over a claimed false oath related kidnapping story. The California Bar association sought to discipline him for alleged improper conduct and money. The case reached the California Supreme Court, which ruled the bar cannot discipline non members. The association appealed with no decision yet. Hardy quipped about saving six dollars a year.

Cunningham Named Temporary State Highway Engineer

Max L Cunningham, a maintenance engineer with the Louisiana Highway Commission for the past month, is appointed temporary state highway engineer by Chairman QO. Allen. He succeeds James M. Fourmy who resigned. Cunningham formerly served as Oklahoma state highway engineer. F. E. Welch of Jena succeeds him as maintenance engineer.
