The Navy sent letters to yard and shore division commanders urging civilian workers to boost production for ships and arms. Officials acknowledge the move could signal a longer work week, though the basic 40 hour week remains in effect with overtime already common.
District Judge J D Womack granted a preliminary injunction barring Kenneth Boagni from taking over the 27th judicial district seat from incumbent Judge Isom Guillory in St Landry Parish. The ruling allows an intrusion into office suit against Guillory to proceed. An appeal motion was denied.
Hampstead court heard Professor Arthur Lloyd-James confessing he killed his wife to spare her a bleak future after claiming his work failed him. Elsie Owen, a violin virtuoso, was found slain at their London home as the case moves to further hearings January 24.
James Phenix Jr 19 year old paralyzed CCC enrollee from Orion Alabama was flown by army plane to Montgomery Alabama to meet his family at a local hospital. He was injured May last year when a CCC truck overturned near Franklin Oregon and now has a broken neck with paralysis of arms and legs. He arrived with Dr W F Patient of the army medical corps and will receive treatment at government expense.
Greek forces report two Italian counter-attacks crushed as they push north from Klisura to Berati in central Albania leaving Italian casualties on the field. Albanian guerrillas raid Fascist lines while Britain reports air action. navy seeks 400 small craft including sub chasers and minesweepers with large funding requests.
Paul Bergeron 40 an employee of the New Orleans Furniture Manufacturing Company was held on murder charges in the fatal shooting of Anthony Nunez 25 a former employee in a labor altercation. Bergeron said strikers followed him to a curb and after being struck and punched fired two pistols one shot into the air and then at attackers before police were alerted. A police station fire occurred during questioning leaving only lamplight.
The French merchant ship Mendoza, carrying food for blockaded France, sailed eastward after noon in a fourth attempt to pass a British warship. The 19 ton vessel previously turned back in Uruguayan waters as the Asturias shadowed her, while a British seaplane made a forced landing at Maldonado Bay.
San Diego workers at the Ryan Aeronautics plant vote 731 in favor of a walkout if talks fail over a wage dispute. The union seeks a 50 to 75 cent an hour minimum, while the company offers 30 cents with automatic increases. Federal conciliator Harry C. Malcolm and the Defense Commission may step in to break the deadlock before any strike action.

The gathering is part of a six meeting tour to coordinate sales efforts for the new year and enhance understanding of company operations.
Suspect Luther Bingham, 24, of Farmerville, held in parish jail Wednesday after hit and run. Sonny Myers, a West Monroe man, remained unconscious Wednesday at St Francis Hospital with skull fracture and broken leg after being struck Tuesday night at Farmerville road and Highway 80. Deputies said the car struck him on the highway shoulder.
