Booth’s Reply To Salvation Army Council Read, Fate Unknown

Sunbury on Thames Jan 15 General Bramwell Booth sent his reply to the high council after being asked to retire on health grounds. The nature of the answer was not revealed and officials said a formal bulletin would be issued later. Mrs Bramwell Booth stayed at her husband’s bedside.

Three Hirger gang members avoid death by aiding police

Arthur Newman and two accomplices from the Charlie Hirger gang of southern Hlinnis escaped the death penalty by agreeing to help police solve 27 killings and numerous robberies. Birger, the gang leader, had been hanged on a murder charge and is depicted seated atop a car while the others cooperate.

Demonstration Workers to Visit Parish January 25 26

Ouachita 4-H clubs will attend a house dress demonstration and enter a state wide contest set for January 25 and 26 at the courthouse. Mica Iris Travenport of the state clothing staff will oversee the event with additional spring millinery instruction. A minimum of 40 women must enroll to enter the contest and elites will complete entries by the state farm and home short course at Baton Rouge in August where awards are presented.

Clarence Bailey Faces Two Charges in Court Today

Two charges were filed against Clarence Bailey this morning for disturbing the peace and fighting. The peace charge came from Mrs. Trellshell of 798 Oak Street, while Jasper Jarlow the taxi driver alleged the fight. The case was presented during a regional foresters conference with attendees from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee, including R. Bo Uline and Rey E. Hogue, among others.

Louisiana to Join Forest Survey on Hardwood Savings

Louisiana will participate in a cooperative survey with eight states to determine hardwood savings from approved forestry methods. Officials in Jackson Mississippi reported the survey has begun in part and will cover several southwestern states.

Cook Adams Granted 30 Day Term and $100 Fine

Cook Adams pleaded guilty in district court to illegal sale of two pints of whisky. Judge J. T. Shell sentenced him to 30 days in jail and a $100 fine with 60 days extra on default. The liquor was bought by a deputy sheriff at Adams home two miles west of West Monroe on the old Brazier place. His defense asked mercy citing his family. Adams had already spent eight days in jail.

Carpenter Tools Stolen From Wilson Street Lot

A thief visited Wilson street in Cole addition last night and took nearly all carpentry tools used for J. P. Adame's house. Morning discovery showed missing four hand-saws six planes hammers two levels measuring tapes saw sets saw lamps brace and bit squares and screwdrivers.

Colored Barbers Organize Local Union Branch

Colored barbers of Monroe held an open meeting and organized a local in the Journeymen Barbers International Union of America with over 24 members present. C C Lewis secretary treasurer of local No 651 led the formation and will conduct installation when the charter arrives. Youth claims he aided Northcott in slaying four

Police investigate a report by Clarence Roberson 19, serving in the army, that he helped Gordon Stewart Northcatt kill four children at Northcatt's California home. Roberson telephoned Greensboro Daily News requesting a reporter meet him.

Farm owner accused in child death plot details emerge

Roberson confessed to police after arrest describing a scheme from California to Northcott's farm. He said four children were harmed and buried in or near structures including a barn and chicken house, with one body recovered and another shipped in a trunk.
