Saenger to Build Grand Theater on Sugar Site in Monroe

E M Clarke of Saenger Amusement says a palatial theater for 1500 seats will rise on the Sugar theater site on DeSiard Street Monroe replacing the old structure. Remodeling will cost about 75000 and the new house should open for moving pictures by September with no stores inside.

Opera House Sold to Saenger Amusement Company

The Monroe opera house, Sugar theater, on De Siard street, was sold to the Saenger Amusement Company of New Orleans for 78700. The deal follows a closure order by Mayor Arnold Bernstein after fire marshal concerns, with improvements under way. The property, owned by the Monroe Investment Company, had been a key vaudeville venue in the city.
