Landowners lose suit over mineral rights in Texas land
In New Orleans on January 12 a dismissal was ordered in a suit by 70 Texas landowners seeking full mineral rights on land bought from the department of agriculture. The U S fifth circuit returned the case to northern Texas district court, ruling the agriculture department cannot be sued as a government agency. The land was in the Wichita valley farms project and sold with three quarters of mineral rights reserved by the farm security administration for the government, leaving buyers with one quarter.

Postal Inspector Shot to Death in Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City January 12 Postal Inspector E M Harkins was shot in the lobby of the main post office and died. A 47 year old man Joseph Donnelly was arrested on murder charges after police found a 19 inch knife and a pistol on him and a pistol bullet killed Harkins as he leaned to take mail from his box. Donnelly claimed self defense stating he was humiliated and accused. A federal charge was being prepared.
