Premier Subasic of the Yugoslav government in exile convened his cabinet in London to address King Peter II’s objections to the regency plan drafted with Marshal Tito. Foreign Minister Gavrilovitch said the move was unconstitutional but that the cabinet would seek a middle course to keep negotiations open with Tito and exit the crisis.

Lingayen Gulf gains exceed 10 miles of the San Fabian Manila railroad and over 50 miles of road networks, threatening a potential Japanese defense flank behind the Agno river. Allied air forces cratered Manila airfields, destroyed bridges, trains, and columns to hamper reinforcements.
Paris January 12 Despite German counteroffensive and Allied attacks the U S army proceeds with home leaves for soldiers who have two decorations or two wounds. British and American units tighten the noose around enemy rearguards expected to retreat from the Ardennes.
A January thaw eased frost bitten areas with milder temperatures from Pennsylvania to the Rockies. New England and northern New York remained frigid with sub zero readings. Forecasters anticipated a gradual warmup tonight and tomorrow, though Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin stayed near zero.
Maj. James Evans Crown editor of the New Orleans States and nationally known newspaper man dies at 69 after a heart attack. Simple funeral services planned in New Orleans before his body is sent to Coldwater, Michigan for interment Sunday afternoon. he died after a sequence of heart attacks following hospitalization.
Brigadier General Max C. Tyler of the U S Army Engineers at Vicksburg said there is no flood in sight on the Mississippi River but engineers must stay watchful until June. He spoke at the Louisiana Engineering Society meeting. The river was 10 feet below flood stage at Memphis and about 7 feet below at New Orleans. St Louis showed 0.5 feet with flood stage at 30 feet.
Mrs. Cyrus Crowson, 37, drowned when a pirogue capsized while crossing Grand river near Plaquemine. She urged her daughter Betty Sue Crowson, 10, to reach the bank, but she did not survive. Funeral services are held today.
