Legion Meet Planned Here With National Delegates

National auxiliary president Mrs. Louis J. Lemstra will preside at a Legion auxiliary meeting in our area. Committees include flower tea and reception, home decoration, and tea service at the Legion home Sunday 5 to 7 p.m. Mrs. H F Madison leads the tea group. other members listed. Beatrice Harb and Frank E. Samuel will attend the two conferences, with a Hotel Frances dance Saturday night.

Regional program aims to honor teachers and patriotism

Governor Sam H. Jones is expected to attend a two day meeting. Saturday events begin at Hotel Frances at 2 pm with an initiation at 6:30 pm and a public ceremony. A dinner follows at 7:30 pm and a dance completes the day at Cherokee terrace. Sunday sessions start at 9:30 am with an auxiliary breakfast for honored guests and formal sessions at 9 am.

Morgenthau Discusses Tax Revenue And Debt Financing

Secretary Morgenthau told senators the treasury aims to finance two thirds of next year’s expenditures from tax revenues and to sell government securities so small savers can buy in cents on the dollar. He said higher tax receipts would come from improved business, and while not impossible, raising 32 billion in new taxes would be difficult.

Food Stamp Heads Start Plans Here In Louisiana Parishes

C B Hodges district supervisor of the Surplus Marketing administration and three assistants arrived in Moritor Tuesday night to inaugurate the food stamp plan in Ouachita and neighboring parishes. A special conference of parish welfare directors and intake officials was set for Chamber of Commerce offices to discuss switching parish relief from commodity distribution to food stamp operations over the next 30 days. Parishes involved include Ouachita Morehouse Lincoln East Carroll West Carroll Madison Richland Tensas Franklin Concordia and Natchitoches. The note adds the U S canning industry now produces up to 15 billion cans annually.

Power of parole vested in Terry director in Louisiana

In Baton Rouge on February 12 the new public welfare board voted to consider parole power as vested in Welfare Director WS Terry Jr pending a study of methods used in other states. Terry said the attorney general had ruled the parole board was abolished and its functions moved to the welfare board but that parole power might rest with the welfare board or the director. Highway suitable to bombers begun near New Orleans

New Orleans February 12 construction of a new defense highway began connecting the city airport with a main highway. The two 28 foot traffic arteries with a 4 foot median could be widened to a 60 foot bomber runway if needed. The project links the airport to army units being built on the lakefront.

Two Louisiana Soldiers Dead in Georgia Crash

Sergeant Leo C. Glover of Coushatta and Private Roy Garner of Castor were killed in an automobile-truck crash at Roberta Georgia. Glover recently transferred from Barksdale to Savannah while Garner had just left Castor for Savannah after furloughs. Both men from nearby Louisiana towns, the two communities adjacent.
