CAPE KENNEDY Fla AP The Lani Bird 2 satellite lifted into a preliminary transfer orbit en route to a high Pacific outpost to relay radio telephone television and teletype signals among the United States Hawaii Japan and Australia. Comsat paid NASA 3.5 million to launch the 357 pound satellite which aims for a near stationary 22 400 mile orbit above Christmas Island. All 480 channels sold to commercial carriers and two weeks to full service.
