Tragedy in Savannah River Marsh Plane Crash
Fifteen people died and nine were injured when a Coastal Airlines DC-3 charter plane crashed into thick marshland three miles off Wilmington Island airport in Savannah Georgia. All victims were Puerto Ricans en route to Puerto Rico. The pilot and co-pilot were among the dead. the wreck hindered by swampy terrain as Coast Guard cutters and Red Cross responders moved to the scene.
