In Tacoma Washington on January 6 authorities detail the ongoing kidnapping of 10 year old Charles Mattson abducted December 27. Pupils from 11 Catholic schools prayed for his safety as negotiators linger with the kidnapper while the ransom stands at 28000 dollars. The boy’s frail condition and exposure are noted and officials say no outward progress is evident.
Governor Lehman commuted to life imprisonment the sentences of three youths convicted in the murder of Edwin Esposito a 22 year old Brooklyn subway station attendant. The six death sentences were scheduled for execution tomorrow night. The Court of Appeals affirmed the convictions of Bolognia Scala and Didonne while two justices dissented on those three cases.
The Southeast faces renewed flood danger as dozens of streams across gulf and Atlantic watersheds rise to flood stage after a week of heavy rain. Terrell J. Satchell a 25 year old Lake Charles motion picture projectionist has been indicted by the Calcasieu grand jury on charges of murdering his 19 year old wife Grace at their home last November 2. The coroner's jury said she died from a skull fracture and Satchell said he found her body in the bed at their apartment. He has been in jail two months and was held on the charge.
