Associated Press reports in Dublin that Eamon de Valera resigns as president of the Irish republic this afternoon. In Cannes Lloyd George urges allied powers to unite for Europe’s economic rehabilitation and set aside prejudices.
El Dorado Gas Company officials survey a Monroe to El Dorado pipeline to secure gas for the city. They seek a 25 percent rate increase and plan to source gas from Union Morehouse or Ouachita parishes. If built, the line could be about sixty miles, costing around 10 000 dollars per mile, with a total near 10 0,0 00, while El Dorado’s gas supply dwindles within months.
The Dai Eireann met in private to hear a report from the peace committee on the Anglo Irish treaty. The morning session failed to reach an agreement and the secret session resumes this afternoon.
Belfast reports renewed firing despite more military police on patrol. A child and a man were wounded after a bomb caused no damage. J H Watkins secretary treasurer of Ouachita Valley National Palm Loan Association received a letter from Representative Riley J Wilson about a joint stock land bank in Monroe or North Louisiana. Wilson said Farm Board advised banks are private capital ventures needing 250000 to start Monroe favored. A F Lever of Washington, Farm Loan Board member, noted Louisiana inquiries but no charter applications yet. New Orleans businessmen show interest.
Robert Edwards nine, a dangerous and suspicious character, was arrested by Officers Hayden and Henry yesterday. He claimed to seek a clerk for a sale on a doubtful item, then allegedly stuffed dry goods into his sling arm when the clerk left to fetch details.
The 1921 cotton crop ginned in Ouachita parish totaled 6,890 bales as of December 13, 1921, including round bales. This compares with 6,863 bales ginned by December 13, 1920, per a report from the U S Bureau of the Census in Washington to Willis H. McCormick of Calhoun.
A series of incendiary fires in El Dorado Arkansas last night leveled three business buildings and damaged six others, with losses estimated at 275000 dollars. Four suspects were arrested as streets stayed under guard to prevent further blazes.

Washington reports indicate the five naval powers agreed to abolish submarine warfare against merchant ships. The Root proposal, amended by Balfour, envisions the ban as binding between signatories and invites other nations to join. A formal ratification will occur when the five power treaty is opened for open session.
The Monroe Traffic Bureau elected officers for the ensuing year. The executive board includes W. K L. Ethridge as chairman E. N. Faulk as vice chairman M. S. Biedenharn as secretary and treasurer W.
