John Wesley Keene founder of Keene Corporation died of an apparent heart attack at 74. He owned four area stores, started with one on DeSiard and expanded to Winnsboro Fastgate Shopping Center and Twin City Mall. Funeral set 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe with Masonic rites at Memorial Park Cemetery. survivors include widow Jessie L. Keene and several stepchildren and grandchildren.

Gasoline Fumes Prompt Large Midland Evacuations
About 2100 residents were evacuated in Midland Michigan after a truck driver pumped 4000 gallons of gasoline into the sewer system.
