Associated Press report from Gros Pin near Quebec describes Mrs Raoul Garneau aged 35 and four of her children burned to death when their home burned. One child was seriously burned. Blanche Garneau, 15, rescued five siblings while the father was away.

The dirigible Los Angeles reached France field Panama Canal zone after a 2,265 mile nonstop flight from Lakehurst New Jersey in 40 hours navy time. The vessel moored to a mast awaiting refueling and weather for the return to the United States in a historic long-distance air venture. Commander Charles E. Rosendahl led the crew and received congratulations from Assistant Secretary Warner.
Al Espinosa, Chicago professional, shot a par 70 in the third round to stand at 210 for 54 holes and lead the Florida West Coast open at Belleair. Bobby Cruickshank, New York pro, carded a 68 to close within three strokes of the leader.
Dr. Charles M. McMillan, convicted slayer of Mrs. Amelia Appleby, wealthy widow whose business interests he managed, was sentenced to life imprisonment at Folsom penitentiary today with the courts recommendation that he be ineligible to parole.
Bishop Ethelbert Talbot of Bethlehem Pennsylvania died aged 80 in Tuckahoe New York after a long career in church work. He served as presiding bishop for over a year having held priest and bishop roles for more than five decades. In February 1924 he became presiding bishop by seniority, a position he held until 1925 when the office became elective.
Los Angeles February 28 Mrs Lila Coogan mother of Jackie Coogan faces a 750000 alienation of affections suit filed by Mrs Corabel Bernstein wife of Arthur Bernstein business manager of the Jackie Coogan picture operation The suit alleges indiscretions involving the film company manager Mrs Coogan calls the charge a silly fabrication without foundation Her lawyers say no settlement will be discussed and the action will be pursued in court The Bernstein suit for divorce continues on page fourteen
Three state revenue clerks face forgery charges as aud itors probe about $25,000 in fictitious gas tax refund claims. Bank cashier L S Goodman of Ashdown resigns after admitting he handled claims on commission and discusses the case with Governor Martineau. Officers say about half of paid refunds came through Goodman's bank.
Edward E. Spafford national commander of the American Legion arrives in Monroe from Little Rock at 8:38. He will tour local mills, attend a luncheon at Hotel Virginia, and speak there before traveling to Ruston Minden Arcadia and Shreveport. Reservations are urged for the luncheon hosted by Isadore Liebreich.
Chicago, Feb 28 threats surfaced alongside sale of bomb loss insurance by several companies. Warnings to Lawrence Cuneo and notes from "Gangland" followed a recent bombing in the hallway of his apartment building. Police linked the attacks to the Thompson Crowe Republican circle, tenants alarmed, and Cuneo planned to move.
New Orleans on February 28 selection of a jury advanced in the trial of Henry Moity, who confessed slaying his wife and sister-in-law. Bodies found in a trunk at the Molly residence. Six non union miners and three guards were severely beaten by union supporters who stormed the Glen Robbin mine in Steubenville Ohio. Three houses housing non union workers were wrecked as deputies used tear gas. seven men were arrested and sent to Columbus. Injured guards were hospitalized at Martin's Ferry. election returns for Ouachita parish will be announced via megaphone and by phone tonight from The News Star office.
Officials renewed search for three Lexington officers after they flew from Norfolk to Annapolis to reach a sick daughter. Commander T G Ellyson, the navy's first air pilot, Lieutenant Commander Hugo Schmidt, and Lieutenant Rogers Ransehausen disappeared after takeoff. No sightings had been reported as plans were for them to reach Annapolis by air.
Shreveport reports plans to install gas pipelines from Richland parish fields to Dainger Field and towns in Texas north west and south of there. Moran Corp of Shreveport will build the line with gas supplied by three major Richland area companies. Affected towns along the route include Pittsburg Gilmer Mt Pleasant and Mt Vernon with rights via George Brussart of Ichita Kansas needing March 7 acceptance.
New York theatre padlock law proves teeth as Lee Shubert warns Maya must close by Saturday. District attorney serves notice after police department dis approves the production, with potential one year closure if ignored. Shubert says he disagrees with the morality ruling but must follow authorities.

Washington February 28 The Broussard bill authorizing construction of a Mississippi River bridge at Baton Rouge in East Baton Rouge parish and a point opposite in West Baton Rouge parish has been passed by the senate and sent to the house.
Baton Rouge February 28 The American Red Cross has spent about 6 million dollars on flood relief in Louisiana for aid provided after the 1927 flood. Relief director T J McCarty says relief work will close at end of March and refugees are in better condition than before. Improved livestock importation and better farming methods are cited as bright results from flood cooperation among agencies.
C C Bell of Bell Manufacturing endorses a northeast Louisiana meeting of manufacturers and the Manufacturers Association at the Virginia hotel tomorrow. He says the conference will foster better understanding, contact, and the exchange of ideas among regional industrial leaders to advance development in the area.
