Dr Pirkey urges action on the League of Nations plan while Wilson discusses the matter with members of Congress. The statements stress shipping resources to support international cooperation and league aims.
Washington February 27 President Wilson told members of Congress that without the United States joining the League of Nations chaos would engulf Europe. He defended disarmament provisions as binding only by consent, and said the league should not interfere with military training while keeping armament in check. Senator Lodge remained quiet.
New York February 27. The transit Wilhelmina Ulmua and Caser a arrived today with 4496 troops including Company M of the 45th Infantry. Eight Seventh division personnel hailed from Louisiana Arkansas and Mississippi and joined nearby stations.
The War Department reported eleven transports sailed from France today carrying about 559 officers and 9,000 men. The ships include machine gun battalions and divisional troops formerly assigned to the eighty seventh division.
Paris reports Louis Klotz, French finance chief, plans to press for maximum reparations rather than tax the French.
