Police Chief J F Dunaway said a burned fuse and two dynamite bombs caused the collapse of a four room wing at Elba High School during a banquet at the Coffee County Hog Producers Association event. No injuries were reported.
Gen Westmoreland commends 2500 American infantrymen on a Jeep tour north of Saigon after a fierce pre dawn Viet Cong assault. 46 enemy bodies found outside the camp. 135 dead total with prisoners taken. Weather limits air strikes while B52s hit targets in Thua Thien Province as ground action persists near Quang Tri.
Four gunmen robbed Olney Jenkins General Store in Eulonia McIntosh County early today and fled in an airplane after shooting. Jenkins, 51, fought one bandit who tried to force him to go with them. $300 to $400 reported missing. One bandit was captured. three escaped by plane.
Lance Corporal John Joyce and his wife Joyce were named Marine of the Month and received the good conduct medal at El Toro Marine Base in California. Joyce, son of Mr and Mrs J J Joyce Jr of Monroe, works in the electronics department and lives in Santa Ana with his wife formerly Gay Hargrove of Monroe.
