In Houston on February 25 two unmasked bandits robbed the Metzger dairies offices of about $3,000 in cash and checks during weekend collections. They forced workers to lie on the floor and fled in a speeding car observed by a motorist. No one was harmed.
Elizabeth and Jane Du Bois died after leaping from a commercial airliner. A coroner's jury in Romford returned a verdict of death by own action while of unsound mind after hearing letters they wrote to their father the U S consul general in Naples and their mother. The sisters had mourned two RAF aviators killed in Sicily and letters were read publicly amid protest.
