Glassell and Wilson of Shreveport win the Hotel Monroe contract for 205000 to build a nine story hotel with 106 rooms and a revamped lobby including two passenger elevators a banquet hall for 350 and a new gatehouse. Piling is awarded to Raymond Concrete Piling. Construction to start by March 1 and finish by September end with demolition of the existing Yellow Cab site. Final plans by J W Smith associates in New Orleans.

Million Dollar Blaze Sweeps Freeport Illinois
A million-dollar fire struck Freeport early today destroying four large business houses and damaging several nearby structures. An explosion from the Pfeiffer Clothing company heating plant started the blaze shortly after four a.m. Flames reached the J. D. Penns store, and the buildings housing C. H. Little and Company and Gulbert and Hulbert Tailors were destroyed. The old Brewster hotel, a landmark since 1858, was saved.

CHARIOTTE? No, Charlotte, N. C., Feb. 21. T Leroy Springs, 66 year old wealthy textile manufacturer, shot yesterday by Eldred Griffith, a cotton broker ten years his senior, rested well at the hospital. The bullet shattered a cheek bone and lodged at the base of the skull without a fracture. Dr Addison G. Brentzer removed the bullet and said Springs could be about in a few days. Griffith was free on bond pending further action. Springs family said the shooting followed Springs declining to discuss business matters closed five years ago.
