Unofficial returns show Jesse E Heard defeating Hillyer S Parker 15874 to 12437 with 62 of 63 Ouachita precincts and 25 of 28 Morehouse precincts reporting Heard gains a 3437 vote lead. Heard carries Ward 5 in Monroe and succeeds Judge E L Gladney who resigned for the court of appeals.

Complete returns show H. M. James winning the Ouachita parish third ward police juror seat with 3,224 votes over John BE Godfrey 2,385. Ward 3 results name Mitchell Montgomery Law rence B. Pettit and C. S. Causey as victors for the parish jury. Ward 5 voters elect G. P. Avants Mose Bayles and Ollie C. Carter with votes tallying 3,495 3,436 and 3,301 respectively. Jury defeats include Tom Hicks Jack Russell and G. F. Swayze with lower counts. Hicks issues a congratulatory statement to Ward 5 contenders.

Catholic Daughters Meet in Monroe Set for April Convention

The Louisiana state court of Catholic Daughters of America selects Monroe as the site for its biennial convention April 25 to 27 with Hotel Frances as headquarters. Mrs. Cleda Waddell of Bunkie is state regent and Mrs. Stanley Hodges of Monroe is convention chairman. The theme is Defend the Faith, chosen by Bishop Charles P. Greco of Alexandria.
