WILD TRAIN WRECK PROBED NEAR TENNANT

Federal and state investigators probe a high speed wreck on the Great Western line near Tennant Iowa causing two deaths and injuries. G B Cooley president of the Ouachita Tuberculosis and Public Health association urges Ouachita parish property owners to vote one mill tax on Tuesday to support a local tuberculosis sanatorium. He cites WPA funding, ground improvements, and legislative action enabling the tax.

Girl, 12, Accidental Shot Kills Mt. Zion Youth

In Sabine parish a 12 year old girl accidentally shot and killed Carl Lites 15 at a Mt. Zion service station. Eye witnesses said Lites handed the pistol to the girl who aimed and fired after a brief conversation. The gun belonged to Lites and he died instantly. Survivors are his parents Mr and Mrs T F Lites.

New Orleans hosted the peak carnival events as Twelfth Night began January 6 with balls and processions. The city saw parades by Knights of Momus Hermes Krewe and Krewe of Proteus, a 38 float children’s parade, a fencing tournament won by Lt. Clipper to Visit New Orleans in Transatlantic Service Opening

Death of J. D. Butler Leaves Plumbing Leader In Community

J D Butler 63 a longtime local plumber and church figure died Monday after a six month illness. Services set at 10 am Tuesday at his home 702 South Second then at First Presbyterian Church with interment in Hasley cemetery. Pilot dies as plane hits lake in Florida maneuvers

Second Lieutenant Theodore Proxmire Jr of Lake Forest Illinois died when his Army plane crashed into Santa Fe Lake in Waldo Florida during maneuvers from Selfridge Field Michigan. Lieutenant Budd Marks of Minneapolis escaped injury when his plane nosed over in a nearby field. Both were stationed at Valparaiso Florida for maneuvers.

Holly Ridge Woman Dies in Lamp Explosion

Mrs. C N Reeves dies after a lamp explodes in her Holly Ridge home. Her husband C N Reeves and two sons Raymond and Herbert plus neighbor A C Knight are seriously burned. Firefighters rescue others as the blaze destroys the residence. Funeral held at Pleasant Valley with Mulhearn Funeral Home in charge. Much colder weather sweeping across the Midwest

A cold wave moved from the middle west toward the east after rain and snow. Detroit Lakes Minnesota registered sub zero readings while Dakotas Minnesota and western Iowa saw sub zero temps. Shreveport Woman Fatally Injured in Crash Near Baton Rouge

A Shreveport couple involved in a two car crash west of Baton Rouge left one dead and four injured. Alton L. Cullins, 37, died from scalp injuries while her husband was injured. The five other victims were Jefferson Davis parish teachers returning from a trip. Names include Ray Callins, Lynn Henderson, Kate Henderson, Marie Louise Gross, and Aline Wood. The accident occurred around midnight on a highway 12 miles west of the city.
