San Francisco welcomes the world as the fair opens on a sunlit day. Dignitaries from multiple nations attend ceremonies marking the opening with cheers and tours of pavilions.
San Francisco February 20 The Panama Pacific Exposition opens with nine o clock ceremonies as the world pays homage to a new western civilization. Officials from every state and many nations attend to celebrate the canal’s opening seen as man’s greatest victory over nature. The fair showcases 11 large halls housing 80 000 exhibitors and 18 foreign nation structures with investments totaling about 50 million dollars.
The exposition displays reproduce Japanese temples and historic edifice miniatures from Arrais, Mons, and Rheims ruined in France. Vases tapestries sculpture and paintings of rare quality form a major exhibit as grounds glow like a fairyland with flags blossoms and music attracting visitors from diverse lands.
