In a northwest gale off Cape Cod the Fort Mercer broke in two while the Pendleton also shattered. Coast Guard and Short Splice report 33 survivors on the Fort Mercer stern and 32 rescued from the Pendleton. Seven dead and 13 unaccounted for overall.

Ward 3 Monro e led with 490 votes from 4 of 18 precincts, Ward 10 425 from 3 of 17, and Ward 5 404 from 3 of 18 as 1,319 votes total were cast from 10 precincts for races including district judge and governor.
A Deccan Airways flight from Madras to New Delhi crashed at Nagpur airport before dawn killing three aboard, including the pilot and radio officer, and injuring 14. Two Americans, Mr. and Mrs. P. Lewis, were hospitalized with burns after traveling from the American mission hospital in Vellore to Calcutta.

In Morgan City Louisiana on February 19 two men were found floating tied to a life raft in the Gulf of Mexico. Identified as Gerald Nini and Michel Lodrique both of Berwick they were crewmen of the wrecked cargo vessel Dahlia which was found in the area with its wreckage. The men apparently died of exposure.
Under threatening skies Louisiana voters turn out heavily to choose a four year governor. New Orleans shows light early voting while cities like Lake Charles Monroe Baton Rouge Alexandria and Shreveport report heavy balloting with machines functioning smoothly. Former Judge Carlos Spaht leads the administration ticket against Robert Kennon as voting proceeds.
Buck Evans Jimmy W Mapp and David Anderson Negro were sentenced Monday in the fourth judicial district court by Judge Frank Voelker to life and to the state penitentiary. They were taken to Angola today by the Ouachita parish sheriff's department. Evans 42 was convicted of murdering Mrs Amanda Solomon. The sentence carried by the judge reflected the only possible penalty under law. Continued on Thirteenth Page.
Washington reports the University of Chicago was named as one of three major investors in a war surplus ships deal under senate investigation. The venture yielded 34 million dollars profit from 101 thousand dollars invested in under three years. Joseph E. Casey was cited as the largest single investor with forty thousand shares across American Overseas Tanker Corp and Greenwich Marine Corp.
Federal warrants accuse three Pascagoula jailbreakers Robert Miller John Scarbey and Linda Blake of kidnapping Ernest Gunn Jr a Moss Point taxi driver and forcing him to drive them to Mobile. Police say the trio held the Pascagoula jailer at gunpoint then fled. Authorities widened the hunt to north Georgia for further robberies and an abandoned stolen car.
