The Fifth Circuit heard arguments on a Louisiana income tax case where a husband and wife filed separate returns. The district court ruled for the taxpayer, allowing separate returns to avoid higher bracket taxes. Dawkins supported the taxpayers in the lower court.

In Collinsville Alabama burglars forced entry to the local post office this morning and escaped with more than 750 dollars in cash. The incident occurred shortly after dawn and police are investigating with no arrests announced.

A coroner's jury ruled no charges will be filed against Mrs. Haney, widow of Edward T. Haney, after she shot him at the L. H. Haney gasoline station four miles west of town.
