A vacancy in the Western District of Louisiana is filled as Pleasant May is named United States judge. The appointment completes a long nomination process and places May on the federal bench in Shreveport for official duties.
Former governor Jared Y. Sanders resigns as naval officer of the Port of New Orleans effective March 4 to run for Congress in the Sixth Louisiana district. Rumors swirl about possible judge appointments and Washington inquiries involving Gov. Ruffin Pleasant and Judge Ian Watkins as Lt. Gov. Fernand Mouton heads to Washington, with Broussard hinted as a potential governor candidate and Broussard’s stance on confirmation.

Charles W Garrett a News Star composing room machinist perished at St Francis Sanitarium after a lengthy illness. He had a decade of service through paper consolidations and earned wide respect. Survived by two brothers and a sister, his remains will be shipped to Jackson Tennessee. The body to be sent this afternoon on the 6:20 train.
New York officers of the French line steamer Guyane report a forty minute battle off the coast of France. On January 22 the submarine fired several shots but missed. a second 65 millimeter shell struck and the submarine collapsed and disappeared.
