In Indianapolis on February 19 officials of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Iron Workers face questions after a dictograph was found in the desk once used by J J McNamara. The device recorded daily conversations between Frank M Ryan and other leaders about the alleged dynamite conspiracy. Government prosecutors plan to use stenographic notes from the recordings at trial. A woman clerk and others speculated about who listened, while Ryan and Hockin discuss the device and its appearance.
After dining, two men repaired to a storeroom where one was killed in an apparent assault. Police investigated and gathered evidence at the scene as witnesses recounted the events.
Alfred F B Theard is murdered by Cornelius Voorhies an old fast friend. A mysterious note found in Voorhies pocket hints at a woman as possible cause. The case shocks local readers with questions about motive and accomplices.
Cornelius H Voorhies a former deputy sheriff shot Alf F Theard a saloon owner in a rear storeroom on Canal Street after dining together. Baton Rouge announces two notable banking hires led by Ledoux Smith elected vice president of Capital City Bank and moving from St Francisville to Baton Rouge to manage bank operations starting March 1. The Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and other Louisiana shipper interests oppose Western Classification No. 51 as filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission. They fear the changes will raise rates to and from Louisiana points and other states, prompting the state commission to withhold approval and launch a formal investigation and study. The commission adopted a resolution noting the potential adverse impact on Louisiana shippers and questioning the absence of a state representative at the interstate hearings.
The North Louisiana Agricultural Society meets at the Experiment Station Calhoun February 29 to reorganize for the season. J Lawrence Odom, deemed the most hardened local criminal, was executed by hanging in Mobile for the crimes committed two years earlier. He killed three neighbors in a sensational case after a quarrel and refused all requests for mercy or prayer despite pleas from his son, wife, and others. He even mocked the final prayer and told his five year old daughter to remove the black cap.
Fort Worth on February 19 Mrs A G Boyce widow of the slain man and mother of the eloped son testified in the trial to convict banker John Weels Sneed of murder She described efforts to keep her son and Mrs Sneed apart as defense attorney questions provoked a rush by Lynn Boyce toward the lawyer. Gov Johnson backs Teddy Roosevelt for president in a California statement stressing Roosevelt should win the nomination and noting the claim was issued with Roosevelt's knowledge.
Rev J T Upchurch famed southern rescue worker arrives from Texas to lead a three city rally tour in aid of the Home of the Good Samaritan. Rev A J Vallery directs the series with the first meeting at First Methodist church drawing a large crowd. Tonight he speaks in the Auditorium, with further services planned in West Monroe and city hall arrangements altered by carpet work.
