About 400 carpenters in the Monroe West Monroe area walked off morning construction sites after wage and contract talks failed. A. G. Patterson said the strike began at 7 a.m. with negotiations ongoing since November 1931. They seek 12 cents an hour raise to 2.50 and changes in overtime pay and fringe benefits.
