San Francisco February 17 Japanese cruisers Chitose and Tokawa arrive today from Japan at Victoria British Columbia with gold specie estimated at 51.46 million dollars for Russia war supplies. Telegram received here via Japanese newspaper notes Canadian censorship of news on the vessels.
Reports from the battlefronts describe Russia claiming Erzerum captured from the Turks with limited details on prisoners. Russian advances push northwest toward Halbert, about seventy five miles from Trebizond. German sources mention Hindu troop mutiny against Australian forces in Meret, an Australian officer shooting two Muslim servants for a mistake. An Austro-Hungarian dispatch cites orders to withdraw Mohammedan troops from the Suez region to a different theater.

Dr J M Cline of the Weather Bureau in New Orleans reports no major change for several days in the Atchafalaya and Mississippi rivers below Red River due to heavy water above Red River. He notes floodwaters from Black, Ouachita and Red rivers entering the system will counteract declines, with a likely rise of about one foot in the Mississippi as Newellton crevasse water returns.
The Weather Bureau issues a special bulletin noting the lower Mississippi remains largely unchanged. Early Thursday stages show Cairo 4.4 feet, Memphis 30.8, Arkansas City 55.8, Greenville 59.2, Natchez 53.2, New Orleans 20.4 with declines ranging up to 6.7 feet and a later 5 p.m. reading: Cairo 4.3, Memphis 3.9, Wicklburg 53.8, New Orleans 20.5 with a 0.1 rise.

The Coahomea county sheriff’s office is now under militia control after the adjutant general installed J. H. Fisher, Governor Bilbo’s appointee, to replace Sheriff D. Baugh. Bilbo claims Beugae’s settlement with the state was short. Sheriff Baugh seeks a court injunction to stop Fisher from serving as sheriff.
State troops occupy the Coahoma county courthouse in Clarksdale Mississippi and install L. A. Fisher as sheriff after Governor Bilbo declares the office vacant. Sheriff Baugh refuses to surrender amid threatened martial law as court battles continue over an injunction and Supreme Court action.
Oscar J. Johpon attorney for ousted sheriff J. D. Baugh reports Chancellor May granted an injunction preventing interference with Baugh’s duties. Governor Bilbo orders Mississippi National Guard to protect L. A. Fisher as sheriff while legal questions on Baugh’s eligibility and a mandamus suit proceed in court. Captain Walter Birdsong leads the Cairnsville company under Adjutant General Eric Scales, who left for Clarksdale to oversee operations.
In the race for the Democratic nomination for sheriff, Fisher contested with Baugh but lost by a clear majority. Baugh then ran in the general election on November and was elected without opposition.
Washington reports that Congressional members will mingle with the White House bride at a President Wilson reception this evening. Key lawmakers, officials, and guests will attend as the first formal meeting with the First Lady takes place.
