Salvador Anzelmo and Charles Ritchey of Metairie posted $2,500 bonds after being indicted with four others in a federal fraud and conspiracy case involving the bankrupt Louisiana Loan and Thrift Co. Five persons died on Louisiana state highways over the weekend. Marvin Williford 29 of Shreveport was killed in a two car crash near Bunkie where six others were injured. Floyd Ford Sr. 36 of Mansfield died when his car hit a culvert east of Mansfield. George Walker 59 of Jonesboro drowned after his car hit a bridge railing near Jonesboro. Gerome Veillon 13 of Pine Prairie died after being struck by a car while riding a bicycle in Pine Prairie driven by Madeline Chachere of Bunice.

Berry L. Cannon, 33, an electronics engineer from Panama City Florida, died at 610 feet during a Sealab 3 habitat air leak inspection off San Clemente Island. Navy officials cite cardiac arrest as the cause. Cannon, survived by his wife Mary and three sons, was one of four divers. the others returned to the surface and are in decompression chambers aboard the USS Elk River. The Navy will continue the experiment.
