Second Polio Case Reported in Ouachita Parish

Michigan Woman Injured In Highway 80 Crash
A Michigan woman, Pearl Peace of Washington Township, was hospitalized at St. Francis after a late Tuesday night collision on Highway 80. Officials say she suffered only minor injuries and shock from being thrown against the dashboard in a 1946 Hudson driven by Aubrey A. Peace. He said he was blinded by oncoming lights and struck a eastbound pick-up. no charges filed and no other injuries reported.

Louisiana Youth Commission Action Sets Four Recommendations
At a Tuesday meeting Judge Frank Voelker announced four proposals to the state legislature. The plan calls for cottage type facilities housing 120 Negro girls and more housing for Negro boys at the Louisiana State Industrial School for Boys. It also seeks funding to operate an evaluation center for exceptional children and a separate facility for juveniles with behavior problems outside the Juvenile Correctional schools.

Youth Held In Connection With Mother's Death
Jerry Don Wells a 20 year old telephone company employee was held for questioning in DeRidder Louisiana in the fatal beating of his 37 year old mother Mrs Ruby Foshee Wells. Police say the killer set fire to the home to conceal evidence and that the widow was struck eight to twelve times with a blunt instrument. Two truck drivers reported seeing flames and the body through a window. A lug wrench found in the garage is believed to be the murder weapon. An inquest was scheduled. The mother lived with her two sons while the husband died three years ago.

Welfare Dept Detention Frame Proposal for Ouachita Parish
