Houston, Feb 17. The bodies of Maxine Long 23 and Harry M. Griffin 41 were found in a parked car on the San Antonio highway west of Main Street. Long had been shot five times and Griffin twice. An unsigned note in Griffin's pocket spoke of love for Long. Officers found a .38 pistol in Long's hand and signs of a struggle on the highway shoulder. Miss Long had worked as a carhop at Sivil's drive-in stand for three years.
Editor Arthur Moore of the Calcutta Statesman demanded the resignation of Britain's war production minister Lord Beaverbrook. He labeled him the evil genius of the inner cabinet and accused him of hoarding aircraft and tanks behind a Maginot Line.
