Three convicts broke from camp E by sawing bars at midnight. Andrew Sanchez was recaptured two miles from the camp near the Louisiana Mississippi line. Hunt Watson alias Jim Yarreill and Willie Dupont, both on the run, were tracked by bloodhounds as authorities investigate the method of the escape.
A prowler shot by private watchman Richard Osborne near Huey P. Long’s Audubon Boulevard estate fled after being fired upon. Minutes later a sedan in a garage ignited and burned. Long and his family were at home as police opened an investigation.
A Monroe man misread a Texola stop on the Texas Oklahoma line and was briefly wrecked by a porter, trains, and sub zero weather. He finally reached Shamrock where locals lounge in heated rooms and a “Gopher club” forms around coffee.
Miami February 11 Aboard the hospital ward two bullets aimed at President‑elect Roosevelt hit Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak and Miami socialite Mrs. Joe H. Gill. Doctors described Cermak as satisfactory with no complications and Mrs. Gill as holding her own. Other victims, Miss Marcanus Kruis Newarks N J and Russell Caldwell Cocoanut Grove Fla, rested well as jail guards watched Giuseppe Zangara in Dade county jail amid fears of kidnapping or lynching.
An unemployed demonstrators group, camped at the county city building since Tuesday, was driven out by fire hoses after a two hour melee. Four men with possible criminal records were taken into custody and later released. Organizers planned a March on Olympia on March 1 to unite forces for the movement led by William Dobbins.

Keith Ewing 19 captain of Mercedes high school, collapsed from a heart attack during a Hidalgo county interscholastic basketball game against Edinburg. The game was halted and remaining matches postponed indefinitely as Ewing's death shocked the crowd. He earned letters in football, track, and was named to the valley all eleven. He is survived by his parents and five siblings.
