In near zero weather Mrs. T. C. Leary, 38, walked nine miles from Cheat Mountain to Elkins to fetch medicine for a sick child. A blinding snowstorm and freezing temperatures drove her off course. she never reached home, dying near a fallen tree while clutching the medicine bag.
