Flash Flood Strikes Downtown Hot Springs Killing Woman
A flash flood drenched downtown Hot Springs Arkansas six feet deep with one confirmed death. Mrs Hollie Barker was drowned after she and her husband sought refuge on top of a car. Bob Barker survived but was treated for shock after hiking to a farm house for help. Police said the car washed into a ravine and her body had not been found. The floods followed a two hour cloudburst as storms tore through the area.

A five hour effort to save a disabled A3D Skywarrior ended when the crew bailed out near Edwards AFB California. Three Navy crew members were rescued by helicopter and a force of F 100 fighters shot down the bomber after the bailout. Teen-Age Youth Shot After Two-Hour Hostage Standoff
In Union New Jersey a 16 year old ward James Henley held 9 year old John Coffey hostage in a bathroom for nearly two hours. Police used tear gas then Patrolman Henry Kitchell shot Henley as he rushed from the bathroom with a .32 caliber pistol. Coffey was unharmed. Henley was in critical condition at Elizabeth General Hospital. He previously lived at the State Home for Boys in Jamesburg and is currently a ward of George A Zutell.
