Jackson Mississippi February 15 Eight convicts remain at large from Parchman prison after a breakout that left a weekend trail of blood and stolen cars across northern Mississippi. Seven of nineteen fled were recaptured near Clarkdale and Friars Point while five crossed into Alabama. Parachute Failure Kills Airman During Training Flight

In Jackson Mississippi a bomber from Columbia South Carolina's air base developed trouble at 9000 feet above Canton. Staff Sergeant Robert F. Deutsch of Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania died when the parachute failed to open. Pilot First Lieutenant Lyle E. Anacker and crew members escaped after the plane was steered to a safe landing at the Jackson air base.

Five flier survivors rescued after 16 days in snow

Boise Idaho February 15 woods men searched for three of eight army airmen who vanished January 2 in a twin motor bomber. Five crew members survived 16 days in Idaho mountain wilderness and were rescued by civilian pilot Penn Stohr who landed on a frozen lake near the wreck. Remaining three airmen were missing.
