Deputy sheriffs wearing tin hats and police reserves were stationed citywide as officials prepared drastic action to prevent repeats of yesterday’s taxi drivers strike. Sheriff Charlik and Police Superintendent Walsh planned to review the day’s events as they continued.
The weather forecast predicts a cold wave moving into north Louisiana and northern and central Mississippi. Temperatures are expected to fall to 40s in the New Orleans area with subzero readings in parts of the Midwest, including 18 below in Duluth, as zero temperatures are forecast for Chicago and surrounding regions.

Washington officials plan a fresh push to prove guilt of illicit liquor buyers under prohibition. They detained John Wayland, 27, from Clarendon Virginia, and Myrtle Schools, 42, after patrolmen said they witnessed Wayland buy a gallon of liquor from Schools for five dollars through a window. The officers testified to accompanying dialogue.
At Racine Wisconsin a blaze in the Olaf Christensen home killed three children Bunnie 35 Phyllis 2 and Edna 1 while Christensen and his wife were saved. The injured father carried six year old Trene from the burning house as the stove explosion set the home alight.
In Jackson Mississippi the six mile highway program moves toward enactment but faces a new fight over a bill creating an elective three member highway commission. Governor veto potential looms after the bill passed the house 111 to 6 and barely cleared the senate by seven votes. The clash pits Theo Bilbo forces against anti administration factions as adjournment ends and strategy shifts to possible veto overridess.
A well dressed man overpowered Sister Rosario the cashier and stole about $5,000 from Providence hospital payroll in Detroit just after 7 a.m. today. The incident is under police investigation as officers search for the suspect.
Prince Leopold of Prussia nephew of the exiled Kaiser arrives in New Orleans for Mardi Gras season. He tours the Vieux Carre and meets reporters aboard the S S Arenas after docking from Havana. Accompanied by Count Cererini the 34 year old monarch expresses interest in American culture but not marriage.
V ictims of cancer flocked to the Southern Pacific hospital in San Francisco to seek a new treatment developed by Dr Walter B Coffey and John D Humber. The hospital offered facilities for clinics as organizers hoped the treatment would prove effective against the disease which medical science has not conquered.
The charred bodies of Lamar Whatley age 1 and Grady Whatley age 22 were recovered after a plane crash two miles west of Jena. Funeral services are set for 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Eden, with burial in the Whatley private cemetery. Pilot W. K. Davidson remains seriously burned but is not charged. officials deem the accident unavoidable.
Nel Grant reports a 11 year old youth found not guilty by a jury after admitting involvement in stealing liquor and shooting two men, Axel Johnson and Bate Snyder, at a turkey shoot. He expressed thanks to jurors and prepared to return to school.
Bert Acosta, who flew to France with Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd, was sentenced to six months in Nassau county jail for abandonment of his wife and two children. He pleaded guilty to the charge brought by his wife after sentencing was twice deferred in hopes of support.
A Mississippi court holds verdict in a case concerning the Deep Channel project. The Board of Engineers rules report is cited as part of the proceedings.
A special board reported that the upper Mississippi nine-foot channel survey lacks sufficient data to approve an improved plan. The Rivers and Harbors Board urged deferring final action until the full survey is completed, with Maj. Gen. Lytle Brown, chief of army engineers, providing preliminary remarks to Secretary Hurley.

The Senate today approved a bill to authorize four bridges in Morehouse parish Louisiana across Bayou Bartholomew near Knox Ferry and Bonter Ferry. The measure moves to the president for signature granting parish or state control to construct the bridges.
Oliver P. Cobb a Memphis accountant tracks eight ten thousand dollar bills alleged by a legislative committee to have been paid by a Boston road materials firm in a Mississippi anti trust case. He moves through banks in Jackson Gulfport New Orleans and Marguh while carrying the bill serials. Lester Franklin leads the tax commission which asked Attorney General George T. Mitchell to hold the contemnated suit.
Hoover and guests fished near Long Key Florida as they prepared for a departure to Washington. The party searched Gulf Stream waters for the king of the sea, the favorite quarry of local sportsmen, before leaving tonight.
