An Associated Press report from Montreal describes a fatal air crash near Port Worth during early morning flights over German lines and notes the death of Vernon Castle. In a separate disaster at the Grey Nunnery in Montreal, a blaze kills many infants and injures dozens, with most inmates saved by heroic nuns and staff.
Fort Worth reports: Vernon Castle, noted English Royal Flying Corps captain and aviation instructor at Ben Brook field, is killed when his aircraft loses control while avoiding a student.
