POWs Return From Vietnam In Large Group At Clark

A total of 143 prisoners of war arrived at Clark Air Base Philippines aboard three hospital planes from Hanoi and Loc Ninh. Most were in good condition and underwent medical exams as Adm. Noel Gayler greeted them. The groups included 116 from North Vietnam and 26 from South Vietnam with one remaining in Saigon.

Southside Postal Facility Slated for Monroe

A contract post office for Monroe’s Southside opens March 3 at 309 Plum Street in Plum Street Shopping Center. W Clifford LaFrance of LaFrance Enterprise Inc. won the bid. Woodrow Hathorn announces hours 8:30 to 5 weekdays and 8:30 to 12 Saturday. The station offers window services, stamps, registered and insured mail, money orders, parcel mailing, but no international mail or box delivery.

Seeber Arrival Delights Family After POW Release

Mrs. Jane Seeber and family welcomed Lt. Col. Bruce Seeber back from a North Vietnamese POW camp after 7 years. The release was part of a cease fire and the televised arrival showed Seeber in good health. His wife plans steak and ice cream to celebrate and hopes for a near home assignment. He will undergo medical observation in Biloxi before further orders.

Weather outlook for region shows warm with possible showers

The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and warmer temps with a chance of showers today and tonight. Highs in the lower 60s, lows in the lower 50s, southerly winds 10 to 20 mph shifting to northerly Tuesday. Monroe Airport recorded 48 high Sunday and 35 low this morning with no rain. Extended outlook through Friday shows clear to partly cloudy skies and a cooling trend.
