Police said Henry Medaille confessed after meeting Catherine in a hallway of their apartment building. He claimed he offered a dime and a lollipop to lure her upstairs, then grabbed her throat on the roof and pushed her over a three foot parapet. He walked to a nearby station and confessed.
Ex-convicts admitted to tying up and kidnapping San Antonio insurance executive. One suspect described firing a gun during a struggle with the victim, narrowly missing the head, before the weapon discharged. Authorities link both men to the kidnapping and related crimes.
At a Miami Beach meeting of labor federation leaders George Meany warned the jobless total could rise by at least one million before conditions improve. He urged a bigger public works program and tied it to Eisenhower’s postal proposal. He described lease purchase financing where private funds build and the government eventually takes title.
Josiah Crenshaw 90 of Bastrop died in a local clinic. He was a lifelong Morehouse Parish resident. The body lies in state at 210 South Odom Street. Funeral services scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Pentecostal Church on Pleasant Drive with Rev. Tom Mayo officiating. Interment at Jones Cemetery under Hall Funeral Home. Survivors include three sons Jack Harvey J. C. and two others and eight daughters in Arkansas and Louisiana.
The Sepacioso club of Progressive Baptist Church awarded Bronze plaques last week to Morris Henry Carroll as Man of the Year and Mrs. H. W. Johnson as Woman of the Year. Rev. G. C. Wilson of Zion Traveler Baptist Church gave the principal address. The awards are presented annually by the club.

Clouds moved over Louisiana bringing light snow in Baton Rouge Alexandria Shreveport and Lafayette with heavier accumulations in Cameron and surrounding areas. Police reported slick bridges in Baton Rouge Shreveport and Lake Charles as crews sanded roads. The storm lingered at ground level near freezing while a Gulf low pressure system moved in.
A 38 year old Monroe man James E Hedgepeth of 1022 Georgia street was arrested after approaching a Monroe patrol car claiming to be a city police department special investigator He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated reckless driving and impersonating an officer He faces city court later this week
The Monroe police investigate the theft of an overcoat from a car in downtown Monroe. H. O. Norman of 126 Richmond Street reported the coat valued at $40 missing late yesterday. Police also handled four accidents with one injury, arrested two for intoxicated driving, and issued multiple traffic tickets including seven for expired licenses and 131 for parking violations.
Norway warned the NATO Permanent Council that Tunisia affects the Western world and would raise the matter in today’s Paris session. Oslo officials argued events in Tunisia influence non aligned nations. A key question is whether NATO planes were used in the Sakiet Sidi Youssef attack.

In New York Meyer Lansky the reputed Cuban gambling head was questioned over the slaying of Albert Anastasia. The pint sized figure offered few details saying he just arrived by plane and would not disclose his activities or intentions. He has a long arrest history from 1918 onward.
The Monroe board chair stated no formal action will be taken on Catalpa Street letters or new memberships while denying knowledge of the matter. This follows defeat of the December 17 bond issue aimed at funding recreation programs, with the 14 member board operating from the general fund allocation of 35,000. The recreation board oversees basketball softball handicraft and party functions for over 100,000 youths.

Funeral services for William Allen Hilbert 66 of West Monroe are set for 3 p.m. today at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Mack E. Bellmore officiating. Interment follows in Hasley Cemetery. Survivors include widow Maudie Hilbert, three sons, a daughter, a brother, three sisters, and five grandchildren. Pallbearers listed.
W Hugh Johnson 57 of South 4th Street died early this morning in a local hospital after a lingering illness. He was a life long Monroe resident and a World War I veteran. Funeral services are incomplete with will lie in state at Johnson Brothers Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park. He was a member of St Matthew Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Athalie Venable Johnson two sons W Cecil Johnson and Jerry R Johnson both of Nice one brother Shelby Johnson of Santa Barbara California and two granddaughters.
