Ruston City Judge Fred W. Jones, 32, received the Outstanding Young Man of the Year award from the Louisiana Junior Chamber of Commerce in New Orleans. The Ruston honor, announced January 17, cites his leadership and extensive civic involvement during 1956. Jones, a Rayville native, began practicing law in Ruston in 1949 after graduating from LSU Law School.

A masked bandit—handkerchief with eye holes—robbed the National Incorporated Wholesale Grocery in San Antonio of 39381 in cash and checks.
