Shreveport dates a March 21 election to decide if Caddo Parish will permit licensed saloons with licenses possible January 1 1918. Proponents fear a return to open saloons while opponents hope to stall renewal for a year and shield the next jury from overturning the result.
In New Orleans on February 11 Mrs. Rosie Didier at 709 Elmira street seized Mrs. CC Lard’s baby to force payment of $20 owed for rent and board. An appeal to juvenile authorities led to a court order to produce the child today. Also noted, James M. Johnson resigned from the fifth district levee board due to ill health, with J. T. McClellan named as a successor contender.
