Gas price rise hits Georgia and Florida

The Associated Press reports Georgia and parts of Florida saw gas prices rise to one dollar for four gallons after Standard Oil of Kentucky increased by two cents per gallon yesterday. Several other companies matched the rise, while Texas Company and Pan-American kept prices at 23 cents.

Golf partner shoots man then fatally shoots self in Los Angeles

Andrew Jankowski of Toledo shot his friend and business partner Cornelius Callahan on the Bellevue club links then killed himself. Mrs Jankowski witnessed the fatal sequence as Callahan tried to intervene. Callahan survived to hospital care while Jankowski was dead on the green.

Liberals reportedly surrender Chinandega after air attack

In Nicaragua the liberal forces who held Chinandega are said to have hoisted the white flag after an air raid by planes allied with President Diaz. Conservative troops reportedly retook the town and planned to test the Managua Corinto railroad to restore transport. Liberals are said to have withdrawn to nearby towns with three miles of railroad torn up.

Georgia Judge Nomination Withdrawn By President Coolidge

President Coolidge withdrew the nomination of William J. Tilson for U.S. district judge in the middle district of Georgia. Tilson, serving under a recess appointment, is brother to Representative Tilson of Connecticut. Opposition cited his alleged nonresidency in the district.

Marsh Free on 5000 Dollar Bond in New Orleans Case

George B. Marsh, said to be wanted in Waterloo Iowa for a one million dollar insurance swindle, was released on a 5000 dollar bond for Waterloo arraignment in federal court. He denied involvement in the sale of the Medical Life company to Insurance Loan and Investment and offered to testify. The deal was alleged to be negotiated by I. C. Lannigan and W. R. C. Kendrick, Iowa’s resigned insurance commissioner.

Fifteen Years Given Man in Kidnapping Case

J R Fields alias Virgil Bace was sentenced to fifteen years in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping the 16 month old child of his wife from a former marriage in Springville Louisiana. He had recently married a widow here and left with her child. After arrest near Alexandria authorities learned of a prior marriage to a Selma woman. Arraigned yesterday, prosecutors accepted a guilty plea without capital punishment.

Irion Reinstated as Louisiana Conservation Chief

New Orleans February 8 The Louisiana Supreme Court refused a rehearing of the Trion Payne conservation dispute automatically removing Maj Frank T Payne and restoring Dr V Ke Irion as Conservation Commissioner. The ruling upholds Judge Mark Me Boatner who had recalled the injunction and permitted Irion to remain in office. Major Payne had seized the office after Governor Simpson named him in January 31. a temporary injunction was later recalled following court arguments.
