Police said the 24 year old motion picture actress from Walnut Spring Texas was bound to her bed with a leash gag and strangled in her West Seventy Seventh Street apartment. The Hinds county grand jury may reconvene in Raymond to probe the knife murder of Nellie Mardiss a 62 year old store keeper at Smiths station. Five suspected black men are detained in Raymond jail over the case with bloodhounds tracing a path to two suspects who offer alibis. Phillip Obrey 17 surrendered after a blood trail from the store and he bears a knife wound in his hand. Two more men are in custody for inquiry.
New Orleans reports that over forty crates of Mrs Onezima Debouchels furniture will go under the hammer February 14 at an auction house. The lot includes old family heirlooms and a set of baccarat or basillion cups said to be among items Cyrus Candler claimed during the breach suit in Atlanta. The crates traveled from Atlanta where preparations for marriage to Asa G. Candler were halted, and the furniture is being auctioned after the nuptial plans were canceled.
The Ouachita National Bank building tallies about 2450 elevator riders in a day. Manager J. L. Riles notes daily averages exceed 2800 and may top 3000. Three elevators handle peak flows with speed. rushes occur during commute, lunch, and after four to six pm.
In Jackson Mississippi two liquor laden cars were intercepted near the Pearl River bridge. A gunfire exchange left one unidentified man mortally wounded. Walter Patton and J W Campbell were jailed. Six hundred sixteen quarts of whiskey and one case of gin seized.

Radio reports from Mexico City indicate a major rebel offensive is under way as Obregon forces push on Vera Cruz. Rebels concentrate at Tierra Blanca after defeats on the eastern front while federal troops delay the Vera Cruz march.
Washington Feb 7 Secretary Wallace addressed the National Council of Farmers Cooperative Marketing Association and was asked by Aaron Sapiro to draft a bill of particulars criticizing agricultural department policy toward cooperative marketing. Wallace defended the department and urged critics to submit detailed complaints.
James R. Wooten of Monroe is reappointed by Governor Parker to continue as secretary of the Louisiana highway commission. His new term runs through December 31, 1929. Other commissioners are Wilson T. Peterman, chairman, and W. B. Cooper, vice chairman, with terms expiring in 1927 and 1925 respectively.
Commissioner Burke of the Indian Bureau urged remedial legislation to protect the estates of the five civilized tribes of Oklahoma from wholesale mismanagement and unconscionable attorney fees. In Louisiana, 28 year old R. W. Cutter, white, was killed by George Parker, a Black man, on a farm ten miles east of St Francisville. Parker fled as Sheriff Wilcox rushed to prevent violence after Cutter’s killing followed a day when Cutter’s son Bob Cutter reportedly whipped Parker’s mother and sister. Cutrer had been jailed on theft charges and denied the watch crime.
New York report notes that a former president held two life insurance policies with a New York company. One policy for 10 000 was taken out when he was 37 as a Princeton professor, the other for 10 000 in 1899 while listed as a lawyer and lecturer.

MINDEN La Feb 8 The Webster parish police jury submitted an appropriation for cattle dipping for 1924 as a referendum to cattle owners. This may be a first in Louisiana where those affected vote directly. The election will be at Rebellar 19 during the second Democratic primary.
