Harding seeks Congress funding agreement on ship bill and debt

President Harding urged Congress at a joint session to approve the British debt funding accord and to enact the administration ship bill. He said action on both measures should occur before March 4 and warned against prolonging debate. The address included a report from the Mellon commission calling the settlement fair and a pledge to preserve international stability. He tied debt action to avoiding losses and reminded of the wartime authorization linking loan retirement to liberty bond repayment. London set April 26 for the Duke of York and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon wedding at Westminster Abbey.
