Moonshine plant seized in Monroe raid. operator jailed
J. L. Thompson, once a West Monroe timber man, was arrested by Sheriff Arthur Grant and Deputy D. L. Roper after a Lapine swamps raid uncovered a large illicit distillery on an island near Lapine brake. Black men clash at Ouachita lumber camp over dispute
Thomas Mack and Will Stewart, both Black, fought in the boiler room of Ouachita Lumber Co. north of Swartz, Ouachita parish. Stewart was shot in the eye with a 38 special and died after running about forty feet. Mack fled, was captured near Monroe by Sheriff Arthur Grant and Deputy D L Roper.
