The Tuscania was torpedoed off the Irish coast. Officials say about 2,397 aboard with 2,187 saved. The Admiralty and War Department cite 168 missing Americans and 2,179 aboard. Survivors totaled around 600 at Buncrana Larne and 27 at Islay.
T. F. Terzia reports his brothers J. C. and Leo F. Terzia served in Companies E and F and 20th Engineers. Dispatches list 210 U S troops missing after the Tuscania torpedoing. Later Leo was reported saved while fate of J C remains unclear.
The Cunard liner Tuscania carrying 2 174 American soldiers was torpedoed and sunk off the Irish coast. Official reports tonight said 1 912 officers and men had been saved with the list of rescued possibly growing larger. Troops were mainly Michigan and Wisconsin national guardsmen traveling aboard the British vessel under convoy. A London dispatch and embassy note updated survivors to 1 912 by late tonight.

Washington reports the Twentieth Engineer Foresters a large regiment aiding France with timber for front and hospital use. The War Department notes British authorities assisted Americans and supplied food and clothing in Ireland and Scotland. Missing list for Tuscania to be issued. John E Hay has filed a district court suit against R Cassidy contractor on Mrs McCormicks residence alleging breach of contract and seeking 102 damages for loss of profit and expenses. Hay says he entered a verbal contract with Cassidy for plumbing at the dwelling for 285 and that Ouachita Plumbing and Gas Fitting Co was to finish uncompleted contracts after he sold out as city plumbing inspector. The petition claims Cassidy’s agents used threats to prevent work and remove materials, and that union labor was not required by their contract.
French government to equip Hale a million American fighters as the U S Army arrives in France. The influx underscores Allied cooperation and wartime mobilization with France contributing equipment and resources to bolster American units.
New York reports Andre Tardieu, French high commissioner, said France can, by July 1, manufacture enough artillery to equip 20 American divisions around 500,000 troops if the U S agrees to an understanding for raw materials from America. He noted France already has more American troops than the United States had at entry to war and highlighted wartime production milestones.
