The governor said troops and state agencies are gearing up to enforce the whisky law harder in Oklahoma. Despite scarce supply and high prices, bootleggers report rising demand as bourbon and Scotch fetch steep rates, while officials insist the state cannot fully dry up the market.
Ouachita Valley Council chief Scout executive Jack J. Pankey says Scout activity will peak during Boy Scout Week February 7 to 13. Somerville authorities report three children died on the top floor of a three story wooden dwelling as a blaze raged. Daniel Hennessey 12 and Lawrence 6 were found in a closet, Jeannette 11 in bed, while their mother Irene 30 suffered severe burns. Marie Belding 33 helped guide others to safety and neighbor Robert Cunha 26 was rescued with facial and body burns.
Dr John F Connolly of Stanford described a brain cooling method that supercools the brain to allow up to one hour of bloodless brain or heart surgery. He demonstrated on dogs and said human trials could begin soon, enabling longer procedures than the current eight minute limit.

Don Law 38 known for playing Fats in Our Gang died Thursday at Spencer Hospital Meadville Pennsylvania after a nine day hospitalization for an intestinal disorder. Law previously ran a Meadville bus depot and prior to that worked as a men’s clothing store manager. He also ran a theater in Ireland for the USO during World War II. The Our Gang series has seen another star die in the past month following Carl Switzer’s January death in California over a dispute involving 50 dollars.
