Monroe Marine Corps League forms temporary detachment

A temporary organization meeting of a Monroe area detachment of the Marine Corps League was held Tuesday night at the Ouachita parish courthouse. C. D. Brooks of West Monroe was elected temporary chairman, with March 5 set for permanent organization. About 50 former marines attended despite heavy rain. The group aims to support Marines and former Marines and aid the Marine Corps. A permanent meeting is planned for 8 o clock in the courthouse courtroom on the second floor. Eligibility extends to current Marines, former Marines, and navy medical corpsmen who served under Marine jurisdiction.

AMVETS Plan to Raise Funds and Build Auxiliary

Walter S. Savage Jr. Post of AMVETS met at Ouachita parish courthouse to plan a building fund drive through April 6 with a 1946 automobile prize. Members invited wives and female relatives to join at the next meeting, set for 8 pm in the courthouse courtroom second floor.

The Junior Charity League plans The Follies to be staged April 26 at Neville High School auditorium with Mrs. Alston Prophit as general chairman. New officers include Mrs. Harry Lemert as president and Mrs. Paul Neal as vice president, with detailed committee appointments announced at a dinner.

Miss Sue Reynolds daughter of Mrs Cleo Reynolds married Copelen P Bradley son of Mr and Mrs F A Bradley in a 7 PM January 31 double ring ceremony at the bride's mother's home near Delhi. Rev C S Wroten officiated before relatives. Attendant was sister Jeannette Reynolds and best man Ensell Lanier. A reception followed with a three tier cake and pink carnations.

Duo Piano Recital and Club Meeting Outline Night

The Fine Arts Club meets Monday February 11 at 8 PM in the Daddy Flowers Memorial Chapel at the Baptist Children's Home guest night allows two guests per attendee. Officers Wives Luncheon Highlights Club Activities

The Officers Wives Club held its bi monthly luncheon at Selman Field Officer's Club with hostesses Mrs R A Powers Horace Cruen R Wemptner Charles Thurber and R L Thomas. Music by Mrs Talmage Boynton and Miss Annette Myers accompanied by songs from Show Boat the Vagabond King Song of Norway and Noel Coward. A $100 March of Dimes donation was approved. Cards awarded prizes to Mrs R E Thomas Mrs R A Powers and Mrs C W Armitger. Monroe Garden Club meeting follows with camellias and Dr Ira Nelson speaker on camellias.
