Fire and Flame Reach Over Richland Well Crater

Watchers described a transformation as the wild well erupted into fire near Alto. Flames formed a fan shaped plume sixty to seventy five feet high with trailing sparks and gusher like sand columns two feet high at the base. Leaking casing created a second fiery path with bursts of sand and a thunderous roar. Heat was felt two hundred yards away and crowds were cleared for safety. Sparks likely from friction within a damaged casing set the blaze. The Alto gas field town watched the fiery spectacle light the night.
