Colmar pocket halved as American French troops trap German divisions
American tanks led by Maj. Gen. Milburn’s 21st corps and French Moroccan mountain troops sealed the Colmar pocket, cutting it in two and trapping units possibly from three German divisions in the Vosges south of Strasbourg. The pocket shrank to under 200 square miles and the Strasbourg threat was removed. Further west the First Army penetrated the Siegfried line, capturing a Roer headwater dam and high ground, while the Third Army pressed into German defenses near the Sieg lines as 10,000 Germans concentrated to hold the corridor.

Death of Hayden Nichols, Louisiana businessman, dies at 52
Hayden A. Nichols, 52, vice president and sales manager of Weaks Supply Company, died in a local hospital after a period of ill health. Born May 21, 1892 in Van Buren Missouri, he moved to Louisiana as a young man and joined Weaks in 1917, later serving as VP from 1936 until his death. Funeral Tuesday at Peters Funeral Chapel, interment River View Burial Park. He leaves two daughters, Anna Nichols McGrath and Joan Nichols, and his second wife Anna Lou Watts.
