Tragedy Strikes Monroe In Weekend Auto Crashes
Two severe accidents left one dead and several injured in Monroe over the weekend. Miss Maxine Simmons, 14, died from crash injuries after a roadster collided with a coupe at Washington and North Fourth streets. Mrs. Lizzie Hughes, 25, was gravely hurt when struck by a car near DeSiard and Edgewater Garden, with multiple fractures and possible internal injuries. Police held driver Wollie Cole on reckless driving charges. Cothran was also in custody though witnesses absolved him of blame.
