Final chapter in murder case ends with manslaughter sentence
Luther Hays is sentenced to 13 1 3 to 25 years in state penitentiary at Baton Rouge for manslaughter in the 1924 murder of Dolph Epstein, grocer of wartz. Judge J T Shell imposed the maximum for manslaughter in a Bastrop district court. Deputies escorted Hays to the prison city, where he appeared unperturbed except for a pale flush. Sheriff Milton Coverdale said deputies will transport him tonight at 9 oclock. Hays had refused further interviews.

Levine prepares for flight to unknown point
At Roosevelt Field Wilmer Stultz announced cancellation of the planned flight to Havana due to bad weather. Convicts Harry Baxter and Frank Wankowski were wounded or confined as two prisoners tried to shoot their way to liberty.
